In Manitoba, but still on the Canadian Shield, we camped at West Hawk Lake. The lake fills a giant impact crater.

We then visited Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba and later, Elk Island National Park in Alberta. Both parks are located in hills slightly elevated above the prairie plain. I love driving across the prairies with vast panoramas stretching to the horizon, and I love photographing it. However on this trip, I didn’t feel that any images that I could take would do justice to what I saw. So I kept my camera in my bag and just enjoyed the scenery. I did however capture some wildlife in the parks, and though wildlife photography is not my preferred genre, I thought I’d share a few images I took. I particularly like the image of tent caterpillars - not the usual subject of wildlife photographers!
