2022 - British Columbia NPs
Yoho National Park. A quick stop only, as we've visited before. A few shots from the shores of Emerald Lake and water rushing into the natural Bridge on Kicking Horse River.
After visiting Glacier National Park in the US, it seemed right to visit Canada's Glacier NP in BC. We stayed at "Loop Brook" Campground, where early attempts to build a rail line up the steep grades of Rogers Pass involved elevating the line in a series of loops on stone pillars. Deadly train accidents and destruction of railroad infrastructure from avalanches led to the digging of a RR tunnel under the Pass.
Jennifer and I hiked to a considerable elevation above Marion Lake on the Abbott Ridge Trail to get a panoramic view of Illecillewaet Glacier - like glaciers almost everywhere, receding.
Revelstoke Mountain National Park. Jennifer and I drove the "Meadows in the Sky" Parkway and then did some hiking at the top.
Jennifer and I spent several days in Kootenay National Park. We camped at Redstreak Campground, on a ridge above Sinclair Canyon and Radium Hot Springs. We hiked trails above and below Sinclair Canyon and spent a day exploring the “Paint Pots” and Marble Canyon. At the summit of Sinclair Pass overlooking Kootenay Valley, we saw unusual horizontal layers of what looked like fog, but may have been haze from wildfires. Like so many areas in BC, much of Kootenay Valley has been swept by wildfires in recent years.
