Memorial of the Expulsion of the Acadians
Here in 1755, the Acadian population of Nova Scotia was ruthlessly rounded up, rowed out to transports in Minas Basin, and exiled to far-away lands, most notably Louisiana where they became the Cajuns of the Mississippi Bayous. There were other embarkation points, but this is the one memorialized by HW Longfellow in the epic poem "Evangeline". Sadly, this monument is located in a little-known and rarely-visited spot several kilometers from the Grand-Pré National Historic Site.
